Article One is a South African non-profit building a culture of participatory democracy by supporting social justice activism, and by documenting its history so the lessons of how rights were won stay in the hands of the people who need them next.

We take our name from the first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”
